My balance
Technorati lists 1,085,251 posts about balance. It exists everywhere. Push and pull, pull and push, forces shape us and what we do. By recognizing forces that shape us, we become aware, and in turn gain control. My intention for this digital story was to depict the relaxed and fun end of the balance scale.
To complete the task I ended up using iMovie on my MacBook. I was all set to use photostory after viewing David Jakes tutorials, but when push came to shove, I shoved myself into the unknown world of Mac. It took a little time to figure it out, but I did, and I am glad I did. iMovie is a great tool full of neat features.
Over the weekend, I compiled photo’s and video of my favorite activities at the lake. My biggest challenge was remembering to take the camera with me. To beef up the story I then used some of my friend Jeremy’s photo’s from his time at the lake last summer and a couple pic’s from flickrstorm.
I am happy with the end product, but do recognize some weaknesses and things I want to do different with regards to timing and sounds. I also thought it would be cool to voice over a poem or reading that encapsulates my thoughts, feelings and reflections on my time out there, but alas, I ran out of time. Perhaps next time. Possibilities are endless with how digital storytelling can be used.
So without further ado, my weekend of relaxing.
Hey Kyle,
Good work on the iMovie. Looks like you had a great time!
I noticed that you used Flip4Mac Trial, I am just wondering why you had to do that. With iMovie, you should be able to export to a format that can just be uploaded to youtube. I was wanting to make sure you are aware of that … let me know if you need to know how.
Cheers!
Thanks Alec, it was a great time.
With regards to the Flip4Mac Trial, when I uploaded the clips from my camera some of them had that written across the clip. In the end I export through quicktime in order to upload to YouTube. Let me know if you any tips for removing the flip4mac trial text, or I will stop by the office sometime.
Great job. Loved the mix of video and photos and the quality. I also liked that you utilized different sources in order to get the message you wanted. I really liked the outdoor, calming sounds of the wildernress and overall choice of music was great.
A couple of tips:
1. Try and avoid using zoom in for too many slides. Some photos need no effect.
2. Use slow motion during the tubing sequence on some of the better spills.
3. The transition from the tubing to the canoe shots was a bit drastic. Perhaps fade music out and use a fade or dissolve transition to switch scenes.
Those are pretty specific ideas which should indicate to you the overall movie was well done.
Excellent video. I too have a boat and we take it out whenever possible and like to try out different lakes as many times as possible during the summer. I think Duck lake looks awesome so if you see a blue boat called “Disco Mama” on the lake that is me and mine so come say hi. Brian Nenson
